Hi, there! Thank you so much for booking a Spring Mini Session with me. This time of year is one of my absolute favorites. I love capturing the beauty of spring and I’m so excited to capture you and your loved ones during this beautiful time!
I created this guide for you which includes more info on what to expect, location info, a styling guide to help you choose outfits, and other helpful details as well. Please take a moment to read through and let me know if you have any questions at all. I can’t wait to see you soon!
what’s included
15 minute session in an outdoor location in San Diego
Gallery of 10 edited digital images (with option to purchase additional images)
Your online gallery will be emailed to you about 2-3 weeks after your session date.
location
Your mini session will take place in a beautiful wildflower field located in Fiesta Island. Below are some examples of what the location looks like!
Location: Fiesta Island, San Diego (The exact meeting location will be sent to you via email)
please arrive early!
These 15 minute mini sessions move quickly and are scheduled back to back so it is very important that you arrive early. Please plan on arriving at least 5-10 minutes early before your session time. This will allow enough time for you to park, get yourself and your family ready, and have us start your session on time. You will also get the most out of your session and we can capture many more photos in a short amount of time. Please note that if you're late, this will directly impact the length of your session and number of images you may receive.
during your session
This session will go by quickly but I will aim to capture as much as we can in the 15 minute time frame. I will capture a mixture of posed portraits and candid images.
final payment
Please note that your final payment will be due 1 day before your session. You will receive an email reminder a few days before your session with a link to pay your remaining balance. If you’d like to pay cash on the day of your session, please let me know so I can make a note of it.
cancellation + rescheduling
I know life happens and sometimes things come up that are out of our control. If you need to reschedule or cancel due to illness or an emergency, please do so at least 24 hours in advance. Please note that the deposit you paid when booking is non-refundable. If you’d like to reschedule your session for a different date, please notify me at least 24 hours in advance and we’ll plan for a different date. If you cancel less than 24 hours in advance, unfortunately your deposit will be forfeited and you will need to pay a new deposit of $150 to reschedule.
weather
The only time I reschedule sessions due to weather is when it’s raining. If its cloudy out, we will still continue with your session (yes, you can still get beautiful images in cloudy weather!) I will be checking the weather consistently during the few weeks leading up to our session. If I decide that we need to reschedule due to rain, I will notify you 24-48 hours in advance and I will send you a couple new dates to reschedule.
styling
“What do I wear to my session?” This is probably the number one question I always get asked from clients. What you wear may be one of the most important details of your session. Outfits must coordinate and photograph well in order for you to be completely happy with your photos. With that being said, I completely understand the struggle and stress that planning everyone's wardrobe can bring. From going through closets to realizing your favorite dress doesn't fit you like you remembered to trying to color match, it can all be too much. I know styling and making outfit selections can be one of the most stressful parts for any photo session. But stress no more, I’m here to help you through this very important part! Below I’ve put together a list of great wardrobe tips!
Wardrobe Tips:
Be Comfortable — First and foremost, be comfortable! Make sure you wear something you are comfortable in and that is flattering to your body type. You want to be able to move around and feel good! This goes for your children too. Choose something that you know they will be comfortable in.
Avoid Being “Matchy-Matchy” — Color coordinate, but leave the matchy-matchy outfits at home. Long gone are the days where everyone wore white t-shirts and jeans in photos! Instead, coordinate more subtly by wearing varying hues or shades of the same color or wearing colors that compliment one another. Color coordination brings a balanced, natural feel to your photos.
Colors & Color Palettes — Rather than trying to match one color, opt for a color palette instead. Your color palette should include 3-5 colors. You want to pick these according to tones instead of just colors. Examples of tones can include earth tones, neutral tones, beach tones, pastels, etc. I also highly suggest avoiding very bright or fluorescent colors as these colors can cause a strong color cast to faces and can be a nightmare to edit! Check out some color palette examples shown below.
Be Mindful of Patterns & Prints — Try to stick with only one pattern and print and play off the colors within it for the rest of the family’s outfit. For instance, if you are wearing a floral dress, coordinate the rest of your outfits using the colors in your dress if possible. You don’t want the photo to look too busy with too many patterns and prints and distract from your faces!
Don’t Forget Accessories and Layers! — Layer your clothing and jewelry to add depth and texture - think hats, vests, scarves, bow ties, belts, suspenders, etc.
Things to Avoid — Avoid large logos, bright or neon colors, athletic tennis shoes, and over sized clothing. Simple and timeless is usually best!
For Ladies/Girls — It’s important to wear what you feel comfortable in, but it is also important to look and feel your best! If you get dolled up to attend a wedding then you should definitely do the same for your photos! Maxi dresses are 100% flattering on all women of all shapes and sizes. They also show movement and flowy-ness in photos which photograph beautifully. Rock that dress, girl! This goes for little girls as well. If your little girl tries on a dress and does the “twirl test” chances are that she will do the same in photos which will make for some beautiful memories. If you’re not feeling the dress option, that is totally okay! Maxi skirts or jeans with a fitted top, sweater or cardigan are great alternatives as well.
For Men & Little Boys - For men and boys I usually suggest henley shirts or v-neck sweaters. For bottoms, try jeans, khakis, colored pants, or even overalls!
Makeup & Hair — Pamper yourself by getting your nails, hair, and makeup done professionally. It makes you feel beautiful, and it looks stunning on camera! Or if you feel comfortable doing your own makeup, I always recommend using natural false lashes as they look absolutely beautiful in photos.
